Republicans Propose Jobs Through Growth Act

On Thursday, Senate Republicans offered their own jobs plan:  Jobs Through Growth Act.  Only days after rejecting the President’s jobs bill, Republicans have presented legislation which they say will empower the private sector to create jobs and economic growth.  The bill includes steps that would “require a balanced budget; repeal Obama’s overhaul of the U.S. healthcare system; lift prohibitions on offshore energy exploration and promote U.S. trade,” according to a Reuters article.

In an Associated Press article, U.S. Senator John McCain (R-AZ) was quoted saying, “They believe that government and spending creates jobs.  We believe business and growth creates jobs.”  According to the same article, U.S. House Speaker John Boehner “challenged Obama’s statement Thursday that he had not seen many job-creation ideas from Republicans.”  Speaker Boehner told the President House Republicans had passed several pieces of business friendly legislation throughout the year that now sit in the Democrat-controlled Senate and have yet to be heard.
