U.S. Cannot Afford CLASS Act

U.S. Cannot Afford CLASS Act
Fox News

On Monday, U.S. Health and Human Services Secretary Kathleen Sebelius said that after over a year and a half of research,“we have not identified a way to make CLASS work at this time.”   The Community Living Assistance Services and Supports (CLASS) Act would have helped subsidize $18,000 of a senior’s long-term care.

According to a Bloomberg Businessweek article, “the nonpartisan Congressional Budget Office issued a ruling that cleared the way for repealing the CLASS Act, but the administration rejected that step — and created considerable confusion.  Backers and opponents said the White House is trying to have it both ways.”

During a discussion on Fox News with Bret Baier, panelists agreed this news could ultimately hurt the White House going into the 2012 elections.  Additionally, it would galvanize Republicans into questioning what other parts of the Affordable Care Act the nation cannot afford.
