Pass the Sequestration Transparency Act!

As many remember, late last year, the U.S. Senate passed a sequestration bill in order to avoid a national fiscal disaster.  This required Congress and the White House to make massive cuts to defense spending.  On top of that, another $487 billion in defense cuts was put in place last year.  Defense Secretary Leon Panetta says the cuts “would do catastrophic damage [to the military] and its ability to protect the country.”  Many other high ranking military officers echoed the Secretary’s comments.

Since President Obama and his administration have failed to disclose the impact of these cuts, the U.S. House has passed the Sequestration Transparency Act which would require President Obama and his administration “…to submit to Congress and the American people a detailed plan as to how sequestration will be applied to defense and non-defense programs within the federal budget. Members of Congress from both parties agree that this information is essential,” as quoted in a Politico article.

The measure overwhelmingly passed the House 414-2 and is on the way to the U.S. Senate.
