Last Minute Planning

March 1st is the day when the President will finally release his budget.  March 1, ironically, or maybe not so ironically, is the same deadline the President set for sequestration.

In the President’s State of the Union Address, he spoke much about spending and little about cutting.  U.S. Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell’s response: “With a $16 trillion debt, he actually called for more spending, too – though he didn’t say how he would pay for it or even how much it would cost.”  Without having the President’s budget, Republicans can only conclude the President plans to “generate revenue” by closing what he deems to be loopholes within the tax code.

One would argue that perhaps the President is presenting his budget on the day of sequestration to lessen the time Republican’s have to audit what the President has suggested.  If the budget, debt, sequestration, and bipartisanship are so important, why is the President waiting until the last minute to present his budget?
