Former British PM Margaret Thatcher Dies at 87

Americans for a Balanced Budget is deeply saddened by the news that Baroness Margaret Thatcher, Former British Prime Minister, has passed away. Thatcher was famous for her hard-lined and unwavering approach to governing, often being described as “The Iron Lady”. Hailed as Brittan’s economic savior, Thatcher took on the UK’s deeply entrenched system of classism and big government. She steered the nation into a new age of fiscal conservatism and prosperity.

A staunch opponent of communism, Lady Thatcher was integral in the fall of the Soviet Union. Thatcher left office after 3 consecutive terms as Prime Minister, making her the longest serving PM in British history. Even after leaving political life, Thatcher was an ever present advocate of sound fiscal policy. A true inspiration to so many here at ABB, we are reminded of her infamous words: “There can be no liberty unless there is economic liberty”.
