President Obama To Address Minimum Wage Tonight

President Obama To Address Minimum Wage Tonight
Tonight the President will address Congress and the nation regarding the pressing issues facing our country. Many believe that the State of the Union is a time for the President to present his agenda and press for bipartisan support. However, the message leaving the White House today appears to lead speculators to believe that tonight’s speech will be quite the opposite.
President Obama has decided to circumvent Congress and use, as noted by the Washington Post, “his executive power to increase the minimum wage to $10.10 per hour for workers on new government contracts, fulfilling a top demand by liberal lawmakers and groups, according to a White House document.” Thus, the President has yet again stepped forward with a unilateral, controversial strategy purportedly aimed at bridging the gap between the rich and the poor. This strategy clearly begs the question how an increased minimum wage in a down economy will increase the labor force, lower taxes, and reduce the national deficit.
