Women Hit Hard By Unemployment

Women Hit Hard By Unemployment
While the Administration may wish to boast significant improvements within the economy, recent Bureau of Labor Statistics (BLS) numbers suggest that females are clearly not enjoying the fruits of economic gains. According to a BLS study, approximately 4,850,000 women are currently unemployed in the United States.  This March number jumped dramatically with an increase of 180,000 women from February’s number of 4,670,000 women. BLS based these numbers on a count of those 16 years or older who actively sought a job in the last four weeks and who are considered to be civilian noninstitutional, i.e., not on active duty in the military or not in such institutions as prison, mental hospitals or nursing homes.  Many are concerned with this dramatic increase and what this may mean for the future of a segment of our population whose livelihood and contributions are so vital to the success of our society.
