Doctors Opting Out

Doctors Opting Out

It seems as though more and more people may be jumping the Affordable Care Act ship, and America’s doctors seem to be bailing out with them. According to a recent cnsnews.com article, “over 214,000 doctors won’t participate in the new plans under the Affordable Care Act (ACA,) . . . .” This revelation is bad news for those who have for so long insisted that Obamacare would transform the American health care system into one coveted by and available to all Americans.

With or without health insurance, patients, particularly those from the low-income levels, will continue to swell the hospital emergency rooms, urgent care centers and other medical facilities. Without adequate physician coverage, the quality of medical care will immensely decline. The sick will be routinely greeted with over-crowded waiting rooms, long waits, and personnel too spread out to deliver acceptable levels of attention. Even if – and that’s a big if – the care were more affordable, the decline in quality of care would more than counteract the benefits of any financial savings. The redeeming value of the highly praised and vigilantly defended Affordable Care Act appears to be rapidly vanishing, along with the doctors and patients who have chosen to defect before the ship totally sinks.
