President Obama to Address the Nation Tonight

This will be the sixth time the President addresses the nation during his Presidency, and many Republicans believe that the President will try to convince the American public that, even with an improving economy, more taxes are needed to generate more revenue. The Washington Post notes, “The president’s proposal to raise $320 billion in new revenue over 10 years by increasing taxes and fees for wealthy Americans and big financial institutions angered Republicans, who had cited tax reform as a potential area of compromise.”

Many Americans by now have figured out what the President means by “the wealthy.” They understand that tax increases in any form or fashion tend to trickle down to the hard-working middle class. As the President attempts to win Americans over tonight, we must remember that it is not what he says in the present but what he does in the aftermath that should form our opinions on his policies.
