Debate Over Fed Rate Increase

The Federal Reserve will continue to consider hiking up interest rates during the next series of meetings on September 21st and 22nd. There has been speculation surrounding the labor market’s ability to handle a rate increase following mediocre job growth during the month of August. According to the Labor Department, the monthly gain of jobs decreased from 270,000 jobs in July to 151,000 in August, while unemployment remained at 4.9%. A number of economists predict that the Fed will postpone increasing interest rates until there has been significant inflation, which could mean a change will not be made until the end of the year.
