Unresolved U.S. Debt Ceiling Casts a Shadow Over Many Forecasters’ Economic Outlooks

Economists are now taking into account the impact an uneasy debt ceiling fight in Congress might have on the economy. For the first time since the presidential election, a majority of economists in the Wall Street Journal’s monthly survey believed that economy could do worse than forecasts. This is a change from earlier this year when economists looked very favorably upon potential tax reform and infrastructure investment. The United States hit its debt ceiling back in March.
