Underfunding the State Department could hurt U.S. exports — and U.S. companies

The US Department of State remains in an internal struggle over funding and size. The newest Senate budget deal would slash funding by 23%. Secretary Rex Tillerson insists that a small Department of State would be beneficial to the success of the American people. US diplomats point out that a cut to the Department of State would have a negative effect on “long-standing efforts to promote conflict resolution, environmental protection and human rights.”
