With eight days remaining until Congress’s joint deficit committee is required to make its recommendations to cut $1.2 trillion in deficit spending, it is unclear whether or not they will ever reach an agreement. In a CNN article, U.S. Representative Xavier Becerra (D-CA) said this could be a “magical week [for the committee].” Representative Becerra went to say, “I think it can be done, but the clock is ticking. [It simply] has to be a balanced deal.”
Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell declared, “Failure is not an option. We need to get a result here.” The deadline for an agreement is next Wednesday, November 23, 2011. The agreement does not need an unanimous vote. A simple majority will work.
