Christopher Halloran /

In an effort to balance the federal budget, Republican presidential hopeful Mitt Romney said he would cut $500 billion annually.  Speaking to a summit held by the grassroots power group Americans for Prosperity, Romney said he would focus mostly on entitlement programs that are siphoning money out of the government.

According to a LA Times article, Romney would “trim Social Security, cap the cost of Medicaid and restructure Medicare.”  Speaking to the group of conservative activists from across the country, Mr. Romney went on to he would shift the power to control Medicaid to the state which the Romney campaign says would “empower them to innovate.”
