In an interview with the National Journal, President Obama stated that his reelection would give him a “mandate” to work with Congress to solve the debt issue.
“If I’ve won,” said the President, “then I believe that’s a mandate for doing it in a balanced way.”
The President claims that the only reason for the lack of progress in his first term is due to Republican obstructionism. Should he be reelected, denying him a second term will no longer be a concern for Republicans, and there will be more incentive to compromise. It is a hard sell, but the President is hoping it is something Americans will believe.
“We’re ending strong,” the President said of his campaign. “And I think we’re going to do well.”
