Ross Perot Endorses Romney

The third party candidate who staked his campaign on the issue of the national debt has endorsed Mitt Romney for President, USA Today reports.  Perot ran as an independent for President in 1992 and snagged 19% of the vote.

This year he’s backing Romney.  Perot says: “We can’t afford four more years in which debt mushrooms out of control, our government grows and our military is weakened.”

Perot had initially expressed reluctance to endorse either presidential candidate.

In his statement of endorsement, Perot heaped criticism on President Obama and his policies, noting the $5 trillion in debt that has been added under his watch.  “To pay for our government’s massive debts, our children and grandchildren will be paying interest and principal on the nation’s debt for untold years into the future,” he concluded.  “That is wrong.  It’s not the way America ought to be.”
