Why Romney Should Kill Big Bird

During last night’s presidential debate, Romney vowed to end the subsidy for PBS, reports Henry D’Andrea in an opinion column at the Washington Times. D’Andrea adds that he’s right to do so. PBS has been a taxpayer funded subsidy that has become unnecessary due to the large private support it receives.

With a $16 trillion debt, it’s time to make some hard decisions. Romney says that we should only spend money on programs that are so valuable that it’s worth borrowing from China to save. If the subsidy for PBS is cut, the money will come from private support groups.

Ultimately, cutting PBS will be one of the easier choices that a President Romney will have to make. And Big Bird? He’ll be fine.
