Comparing President Obama to a procastinating teenager facing a book report deadline, even White House press secretary Jay Carney joked the president would wait until “11:59 and 59 seconds, because he’s ever hopeful” about both parties reaching a deal. Although this morning was President Obama’s first face-to-face meeting with Congress on the subject, they’ve known for two months that the deadline that was swiftly approaching. And, neither side holds out much hope that a solution will be easily attained.
