On Monday, May 13, 2013, Congressman Fitzpatrick (R-PA) visited approximately 150 8th graders to teach and discuss our nation’s future, namely the national debt. His remarks centered around the staggering $16.8 trillion figure and Congress’ inability to work with one another.
“Not many wake up in the morning and say, ‘How can I reach across the aisle,” Fitzpatrick stated. He went on to mention that without bipartisan compromise the government will eventually stop running. While this may seem like a heavy lesson for an 8th grader, perhaps we should remember that we learned to comprise in kindergarten and learned the basics in math in the first grade.
