A country once erected as a bastion for human liberty and prosperity, America is quickly losing grip of the fundamental principles upon which it was formed. The cornerstone of our nation was built upon the backs of those who courageously departed countries whose excessively burdensome governments impeded the abilities of individuals to achieve social, religious, and economic fulfillment. Now, our nation, once at the top of the economic freedom list, finds itself gradually slipping due to ever increasing tax rates, a skyrocketing deficit, and government spending that shows no sign of slowing down.
In a recent article, The Wall Street Journal goes so far as to declare that the once leader of the free world is now losing its footing. This article presents a compelling argument – “It’s not hard to see why the U.S. is losing ground. Even marginal tax rates exceeding 43% cannot finance runaway government spending, which has caused the national debt to skyrocket. The Obama administration continues to shackle entire sectors of the economy with regulation, including health care, finance and energy. The intervention impedes both personal freedom and national prosperity.”
