On Wednesday, March 5, 2014, the House backed legislation that will exempt individuals for one year from the ACA mandate penalty for failing to sign up for health insurance. This extension will allow individuals the same reprieve as businesses. According to the AP, in an abc NEWS article, “the vote was 250-160, with 27 Democrats joining Republicans…” Passage of this legislation does not stand a chance in the Democratic-led Senate. The persistent failure of the Senate and the President to be swayed by immense popular discontent with the ACA legislation leaves many to believe that the 2014 election year will be tougher for Democratic candidates than anticipated.
