What Do You Owe?

The Congressional Budget Office (CBO) recently released a startling finding regarding the portion of the national debt each American family will own. The Portsmouth-DailyTimes asserts, “according to the non-partisan Congressional Budget Office, over the next two decades, your family’s portion of the national debt will be $250,000.” Senator Portman, among others, seems to be echoing these concerns, and he provides a solution. The Senator, along with many economic experts, believe that our nation must curb the national debt and reform entitlement spending in order to reduce the national debt. Failure to constructively address the debt and entitlement spending could lead to an estimated national debt of $40 trillion over a 20-year period. What remains to be seen is whether or not Congress will actually heed the Senator’s advice.
