SNL Skit Gives a Comical Twist to What Many Are Thinking: Americans Want Bipartisan Reform – Not Imperial Rule

While many agree that there must be immigration reform, debate remains about how to best streamline the process. Much as it has dealt with Obamacare, the current administration has ramrodded another policy down the American public’s throat while ignoring the opinions of its citizens. The Washington Post notes that even Saturday Night Live (SNL) is getting in on the act by suggesting that the executive action taken by the President is unconstitutional. The Washington Post reports that this action will direct “the Department of Homeland Security to expand programs that defer deportation for classes of undocumented immigrants — parents of U.S. citizens or permanent-resident children, as well as undocumented immigrants brought to the country as children. Obama’s action on Thursday adds 4 million new eligible immigrants, on top of the 1 million young immigrants who became eligible for deferred deportation under Obama’s original 2012 program.”

As we continue to debate the constitutionality, rationality and practicality of the President’s recent actions, we must consider that once the bell has been rung it cannot be “unrung.” Let’s hope this executive action has not irreversibly impeded Congressional efforts to deliver a viable bipartisan plan for immigration reform.
