A Balanced Budget Through Healthcare

The Florida state legislature is currently battling how to pass a balanced budget. Healthcare is the largest part of Florida’s budget at $20 billion. Two proposals to reduce costs include directing patients to ambulatory care and recovery care centers instead of hospitals, and allowing highly-skilled nurses and physicians assistants to prescribe more drugs to patients to overcome the shortage of physicians to treat patients. In addition, Governor Scott has proposed means educating patients on the exact costs of services rendered in emergency rooms so that they can balance their bills respectively
