Data scientists look at unemployment in different ways, and it is important to understand which measures account for what portions of the population. While the official unemployment rate (U-3) sits at 4.9%, it does not count for discouraged, marginally attached and involuntary part-time workers (U-6). This U-6 measure was 9.7% in February of 2016.
