Economy doing OK even if official scorecard shows low score

By the numbers, we are experiencing slow growth in the early stages of 2017, but Jeffry Bartash of MarketWatch.com says this is nothing to be alarmed about. We have had unusually mild weather as of late, which includes the second warmest February since the 1890’s. Since there is less demand for natural gas and electricity, consumers are spending less on such areas which the government heavily relies on in their consumer spending reports. Consumers are better off because they spend less on heating their homes, but the numbers on paper look unimpressive because of the reduced demand. Bartash points to steady job creation, rather low unemployment and increasing business investment as positive signs for the overall economy. The numbers aren’t spectacular, but at this stage in early 2017 there¬†is reason to stay optimistic.
