Republicans are eager to get to tax reform, however, one thing stands in their way: the budget. The budget-writing process begins next week after President Trump releases the details of his own budget proposal. Budget resolutions serve as blueprints for lawmakers to adjust spending levels for the coming fiscal year. Passing a budget resolution also opens the way for reconciliation, which allows certain tax and spending measures to pass the Senate with a simple majority. With Democrats vowing to oppose the Trump Administration every step of the way, this is particularly crucial for congressional Republicans.
