President Trump vowed on Friday that he will be taking steps to speed up the permitting process for building roads and bridges through the creation of a special council to navigate through federal “red tape.” The president said his administration is working on a “massive permit reform” to reduce the length infrastructure projects take, which are oftentimes more than 10 years. Senators Rob Portman and Claire McCaskill wrote in a letter to the president on Thursday that he needed to take advantage of the Fixing America’s Surface Transportation Act by appointing a director to the federal permitting improving steering council to increase the speed of federal projects.
