Trump to End Subsidies to Health Insurers

The Administration has decided to discontinue cost-sharing reduction payments to insurers under the Affordable Care Act program. These payments were deemed unconstitutional citing a legal opinion by attorney general Jeff Sessions. Donald Trump has told one lawmaker that if there is a bipartisan reform that CSR payments would continue. Sens. Lamar Alexander (R., Tenn.) and Patty Murray (D., Wash.) are crossing aisles to provide this reform.  The healthcare plan would offer states flexibility in the implementation of the ACA that Republicans want and legislation that would maintain the payments to insurers, which Democrats want. This deal seems to be the only way that legislators could ensure cost-sharing reduction payments are continually paid.
