As Republican’s progress towards tax reform one goal is to remain at the forefront. Tax simplification. Part of the Republicans pitch for tax reform is that 9 out of ten Americans would be able to fit their taxes on the size of a postcard. Although that goal is somewhat unrealistic the GOP effort is making huge strides toward a more simple system. “on simplification, it’s actually pretty good,” said Lawrence Zelenak, a Duke University law professor. “It gets rid of several things which add a lot of complexity for a lot of ordinary taxpayers.” Simplification is great for a majority of the country. However, simplification doesn’t always mean lower taxes. Some families would benefit from a more complicated tax code that deducts for itemized items and has a lower standard deduction. “They’re not going to solve complexity overnight,” said Andrew Moylan, executive vice president of the right-leaning National Taxpayers Union Foundation. “It’s not perfect, but we’re definitely moving in the right direction.”
