House Majority Leader Kevin McCarthy is looking to make a last-minute push to preserve the income-tax deduction. Proponents of this change would like to see taxpayers be able to choose if they would instead use the income-tax deduction rather than the property tax deduction. California Republicans have pushed for answers to relieve the burden of California’s high-income tax. California’s GOP understood that the property-tax break was essential in garnering enough votes in New York and Illinois to pass the house; however, the property deduction is less useful in California where property taxes are limited, and income taxes are substantially higher. Many changes and prepositions are being considered in the final reconciliation process between the Senate and the House and more deals and bargains should be struck in the weeks to come.
