Tariff Showdown Shifts to Intense Negotiation Period

President Trump initiated tensions over Chinese trade practices and officials think that more market turmoil is to come. The tension amounted over potential tariffs and neither major economy shows signs of backing down.

“It’ll be a couple months before tariffs on either side would go into effect,” said White House press secretary Sarah Huckabee Sanders. “I would anticipate that if there are no changes to the behavior of China and they don’t stop the unfair trade practices, then we would move forward.”

These tariffs are aimed at a wide range of goods mostly machinery and materials. China counter with their own list including base metals, chemicals, textiles and vegetables.

The stand off is likely to continue as neither country has showed signs of backing off, but there is time for negotiations.
