Budget talks between White House, Pelosi spill into weekend

Thursday afternoon, Schumer told reporters that offsets were the “major outstanding issue” concerning the finalization of the budget deal. Democratic leaders were insisting they were close. However, budget negotiations between the Trump administration and Speaker Pelosi continued on into the weekend despite Friday being what Pelosi saw as a necessary deadline. As matters stand, Trump’s administration has been “pushing for at least $150 billion in cuts to be included in the agreement” to be chosen by Democrats from among “a list of $574 billion in cuts” that the White House sent to congressional leaders.┬áStill, “there are signs of a rift within the Trump administration over the looming agreement”. Furthermore, “‘House conservatives are deeply concerned about the latest reports regarding the status of the budget caps deal'” and believe that it would be a “‘far cry from the fiscally responsible path represented by President Trump’s budget request'”.
