Time Is Running Out for Congress to Address Expiring Health Care Tax Credits Before September 30
Conservative voices across the country are urging Congress to extend critical health care tax credits to avert a massive health care tax hike set to hit millions of hardworking Americans if enhanced premium tax credits expire at the end of this year.
These tax credits help eligible Americans who buy their own health care insurance through the individual health insurance marketplace afford monthly premiums. If Congress fails to act, they will trigger a potential tax hike on more than 24 million Americans, leading to thousands of jobs lost, billions of dollars in economic loss, and higher premiums across the board.
Trump pollster John McLaughlin recently noted in a Townhall op-ed, “Allowing these enhanced PTCs to expire would effectively amount to a tax increase, resulting in millions of Americans losing their health care and health care costs spiking dramatically. The first effects of this tax hike will start to be felt before the tax credits expire, as rates will begin to be published in September, elevating the urgency for a solution.”
Conservative leaders from across the country are urging Congress to act now:
Hugh Hewitt, The Hugh Hewitt Show: “[The health care] tax credits were not included in the One Big Beautiful Bill, largely on the assumption, I believe, that Democrats would come along and pass them along with Republicans when either a CR or the annual appropriations came through. That has not yet happened, so you have to get on board if you get your insurance through the health exchanges.”
Scott Jennings, The Scott Jennings Show: “Congress secured a historic victory for the president when they passed the Big Beautiful Bill Act, but that win is now at risk because of these looming health care tax increases that Congress has to fix. […] If [the tax credits expire], 24 million Americans could face skyrocketing health care costs. Millions may lose coverage entirely.”
Mike Gallagher, The Mike Gallagher Show: “A massive health care tax will hit millions of Americans if we allow key health care tax credits to expire on December 31. Millions may lose their coverage altogether. Rural communities could be hit especially hard. Congress has to act.”
Trump Campaign Pollster John McLaughlin has emphasized the widespread support for extending the tax credits, warning that failure by Congress to act could cost Republicans their congressional majority in 2026.
John McLaughlin, Townhall: “Our MAGA voters need this tax credit. Going into next year’s midterm elections, we can’t afford to lose the votes of these working MAGA voters. We need them to come back out to the polls. […] “The bottom line is this: preserving the health care tax credit should be a top legislative priority for Congress this fall.”
John McLaughlin, The Hugh Hewitt Show: “In the [individual] marketplace, they can get tax credits to help them with health insurance costs that they get on their own. And it’s across the board. Republicans support it 84 to nine, Democrats support it, 89 to four, independents, 83 to 10, and Trump voters 82 to 10…this is something that’s very popular.”
Additional conservative voices are echoing concerns about the severe fallout Republicans could face if Congress does not act.
Terrance K Williams, Podcaster: “Trump pollster said we will lose the midterms because of this. The Democrats will try to impeach our great President if they win the midterms. We must fight, fight, fight! Congress must get involved. We can’t afford to lose.”
Dave Bondy, Journalist: “24 million Americans could face a health-care tax hike if Congress fails to act. Could this be the GOP’s biggest midterm risk?”
Natalie Winters, War Room Podcast Co-Host: “If Republicans in Congress would stop prioritizing foreign nations over preserving health care tax credits for their *constituents* that would be great.”
