About Douglas “Dee” Stewart, President of Americans for a Balanced Budget

Dee Stewart is President of the Americans for a Balanced Budget (ABB), a national grassroots advocacy organization of more than 5,000 members.  Stewart brings a wealth of experience in the areas of communication, organization management and grassroots advocacy to ABB.  Stewart has led ABB from its 2009 launch through its present period of rapid membership growth and expanded policy influence.

A former campaign staffer for U.S. Senator Phil Gramm (R-TX) and Representative Robin Hayes (R-NC), Stewart later served as Finance Director of the North Carolina Republican Party and Executive Director of the Republican Party of Iowa (RPI).  As Executive Director of RPI, he managed the 1999 Iowa Straw Poll (the best-attended paid political event in American history) and oversaw the 2000 Iowa Caucuses.  Stewart later served as Chief of Staff to Congressman Patrick McHenry (R-NC).

Stewart was named a Rising Star for 2008 by Campaigns & Elections Politics magazine.  He holds a B.A. in Government and an MBA from Campbell University.  Stewart has appeared on the CBS Evening News, ABC’s World News Tonight, NBC’s Today, CNN’s Inside Politics, MSNBC’s Equal Time, Fox News’s The O’Reilly Factor and C-SPAN.
